Workshops

Workshops allow those in leadership and board positions to increase their capacity to serve and succeed. Participants will gain progressive, effective, collaborative, results-oriented and community-minded management skills and advice.

Workshop: Financial Risk

1. Financial Risk Management – Preventing Pain

This 3-hour seminar is designed specifically for CEOs and Board Chairs and Treasurers. During this workshop you will:

  • Understand just how vulnerable you and your organization are to financial deficiencies.
  • Be able to set up as financially secure operation as is practical.
  • Be able to review and make simple but powerful additional controls and safeguards to your current financial operations.
  • Be able to better manage your risk – and sleep better.

You’ll learn what you can and should do in plain language – by someone who’s been there.

Few things affect a non-profit organization more than financial difficulties resulting from inattention, sloppiness, and employee fraud. Reduce your risk with these simply implemented strategies and protocols.

Workshop: Measurable Results

2. The Future of Non-profits – Measurable Results

This 4-hour seminar is designed specifically for CEOs, Professional Staff, and Board Members. During this workshop you will:

  • Understand the importance of a new approach in measurements to your organization’s financial future – and that of your community.
  • Understand the current/conventional measurements versus the future measurements of success for your organization.
  • Be able to begin a process of creating and using benchmarks in your community and your organization.
  • Be aware of the future demands of, and able to communicate with, your major stakeholders in powerful ways they’ve been waiting to hear.
  • Be better able to establish your position in an increasingly competitive environment.

You’ll learn what you can and should do in plain language – by someone who’s been there.

Doing good is no longer enough. Stakeholders and community members have expectations for your organization to improve the long term well-being of its citizens and community.

Workshop: Board/CEO Relationships

3. Board/CEO Relationships – The New Expectations

This 4-hour seminar is designed specifically for CEOs and Board Members. During this Seminar you will:

  • Focus on the elements that will make your Board/CEO relationship successful, including:
    - Diversity (from a functional perspective)
    - Shared, strategic vision
    - Relevant and measurable results
    - Up-to-date policies and procedures
    - Partnering with the right CEO
    - Identifying the weaknesses that are keeping you from excellence
    - Assessing the Board’s and the CEO’s performance

You’ll learn what you can and should do in plain language – by someone who’s been there.

It’s not a ‘one-person’ show – on either side. Making the Board/CEO relationship work – and it is work – is the key to the future of successful, non-profit organizations.

Who should sponsor a workshop?

We suggest one or more organizations consider sponsorship of the SPIDER workshops for a consortium of non-profit organizations in the community. While the topics are “on the money” and the cost of a workshop is most affordable, sharing that cost can make sponsorship even more attractive.

Why now?

Executive and Board leaders face new challenges in today’s non-profit environment. SPIDER’s workshops – geared to participation and learning by attendees – are all about wise money, operational, and strategic management for the 21st century. Today’s required communications, relationship-building, and operational requirements dictate the use of new, but easy to understand and simple to execute, ways to compete effectively.
